1×1 Mindfulness Mentoring

What is mindfulness? 
Mindfulness means to deliberately pay attention to whatever you are doing, right now. These pages can be read mindfully or with a mind not fully focussed and aware that you are reading an article. Everything except sleep can be done mindfully. We can eat mindfully or we can think about past or future event without paying attention to our eating. How does it work? While most of what we achieve is by “doing”, mindfulness achieves its ends by “not doing,” simply by observing. It seems to achieve its success by allowing us to see our thoughts and emotions for what they are, thoughts we are having at the moment and emotions we are experiencing. Thoughts like “I must be stupid” are subtle and we generally believe them uncritically. By being mindful of our thoughts we gradually get the idea that the are just thoughts that we are having and there is no need to believe them uncritically. Similarly with a feeling like “anger” we start to realize that it is a feeling that is currently strong within us but no more than that, we currently have anger, but it doesn’t define us and it will pass. We stop identifying with the thoughts and emotions. Our mind ceases to be in the control of strong feelings and thoughts and slowly comes under our own control.

All online mentoring includes one hour sessions, check ins with the parents, and individualized goal setting beginning of each session. We focus on learning our self-worth, self-discovery, and self-awareness. 

A typical session goes as follows; review of what we will do that session, a quick “how are you feeling” check in, transition breathing exercise, instructional discussion, mindfulness activity,  “how are you feeling” reflection,  gratitude sharing.

  • The programs provide tools and resources to empower kids to be leaders of their own life by taking full responsibility for their journey.
  • While being in the program, children learn how to overcome self-doubt, manage mistakes, and deal with peer pressure so they can develop strong self-esteem and powerful self-confidence for a lifetime. Each child’s month will look different then another, every child gets their own, individual instructional discussions. 
  • The programs are designed in such a way that children feel like they’re playing: they’re easy and fun, but also teach skills and provide steps to take action.
  • We learn by conversations, activities, humor, and stories to spark discussion rather than talking directly about challenges or situations. This helps them feel at ease because they are not being judged or put on the spot. We call this “teaching without preaching” or “learning without lecturing”.

Group Classes

  • Our mentoring programs for children are based on the WISDOM System for Coaching Children from Adventures In Wisdom. 
  • This is a story-based coaching system for children ages 7-17, with fun and engaging programs. The programs provide tools and resources to empower kids to be leaders of their own life by taking full responsibility for their journey.
  • While being in the program, children learn how to overcome self-doubt, manage mistakes, and deal with peer pressure so they can develop strong self-esteem and powerful self-confidence for a lifetime. Awareness of Thoughts & Feelings

Ages 7-12

We learn to accept all feelings of happy, joy, sad, grieving, etc. They make us human and when we recognize them we feel less “stuck” and we are able to live more in the moment. How good is it to feel good? It’s this happiness in our hearts we can truly feel. I like to call this feeling having a “happy heart”. We will learn about: How to witness feelings: Mood Chart, Body Scan How to accept feelings How to release feelings using the 5 Senses (writing, music, etc) Our thoughts control how we feel about ourselves and others. Sometimes our thoughts happen so fast we don’t notice them, but our subconscious does and this still affects our moods. The more aware we are of our thoughts the more control we have over them and can control how we feel. We will expand on the 5 C’s of thoughts which are Catch, Check, Collect, Challenge, and Change.

Building Resilience

Ages 8-14

Building resilience means helping kids develop the skills to handle the ups and downs of growing up without getting down on themselves or giving up on themselves. Developing resilience is one of the most important mindset skills for kids to learn because their ability to pick themselves up again when things don’t go their way will directly shape who they become and what they create in their lives. The good news is that resilience can be taught. At Adventures in Wisdom, we call this slaying dragons! To learn how to slay dragons, kids learn specific skills for managing mistakes, overcoming fear, moving past disappointment and failure, and handling change. The key to handling these challenges is learning to use power shifting skills, developing supportive belief systems, using positive self-talk, and practicing visualization. With this course, kids learn how to get back up again after falling down so that disappointments and failures don’t keep them from their dreams.

Color & Breathe

Ages 7-17

An interactive class focusing on breathing techniques which will be a tool for them manage their emotions better. They will become aware of how they already breathe, learn a breathing technique and then reevaluate how they are breathing at the end of the session. The benefits can result in better sleep, better focus, and better coping skills. I will post the coloring page the day of class and during class we will color together and I will guide learners to practice different breathing exercises each week. This is a great self-love class where we “take a break” from the world and stresses while we meditate by focusing our attention on our breaths and coloring. When we focus on ourselves we are giving ourselves the self-love we deserve.

Gratitude Hour

Ages 7-12

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” Melody Beattie Gratitude is directly related to optimism which makes people happier. When we are grateful for what we have, we are able to feel the gratitude in our hearts and be aware of our feelings. This is a great tool for our mindfulness tool belts. When we feel intense emotions such as anger or frustration, we can get caught up in those emotions. Gratitude helps us handle those emotions by shifting our thoughts from anger to thankful. Learning gratitude is such an important tool. We will learn the importance of gratitude, what it means and create a gratitude journal that they will use daily. Including a breathing exercise at the end to feel the gratitude in our hearts.

Making Dreams Come True

Ages 7-12

Throughout history, humans have made the once “impossible”, possible – from electricity, to airplane flight, to cell phones, to open heart surgery – impossible dreams have become day-to-day conveniences of the modern world. And it is all the result of dreaming! Someone thought of an idea, believed in that idea, and took action to make it happen. Kids learn that no one can make their dreams come true except for them. In this package kids learn a three step process for creating a life of their dreams. They create a vision for their lives, learn how to use goal setting to take action on their vision, and learn how to use manifesting tools of visualization, affirmations, and gratitude to “program” their mind for success. With DreamPower kids learn how to make their dreams come true without the fairy!
